PDF version of this notice

Excellent News... I have released the new async capable software to production which will begin on Tuesday, January 19th. The first batch of Async 90si PC boards are completed and awaiting the software so we only have final test, QC and final assembly to do before we can begin shipping later in the week. We will be filling a backlog of orders on a first -received-first-shipped basis and expect to complete that within two or three weeks, at which time we will be shipping new 90si and Trade-In orders out of stock.

If You Have a 90si... It's worth at least $264 towards a new Async Capable 90si as a Trade-In. Every 90si ever sold, including those sold more than 11 years ago by GTE and TSP, will receive this trade-in discount. Newer units will receive more substantial trade-in discounts, as you will note below:
90si Async Trade-Ins:
90si-UF, Free Trade-In for 90si's purchased on/after 1 NOV 2008, Free (You MUST Register for this)
90si-U2, Trade-In for 90si shipped between 1 NOV. 2007 & 31 OCT 2008, $549

PDF version of this notice

A lot has happened since last we updated you on the progress of our Async Development program. We continue to make excellent progress and are nearing completion of the development work. The biggest happening, however, is that the Government has decided to take an active role in this transition from Synchronous secure faxing to Asynchronous secure faxing.

The Government has tasked the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) in Fort Huachuca, AZ with immediately creating an Asynchronous Secure Fax Test Bed to insure interoperability between all Async secure faxes and the primary crypto devices. We have agreed to participate.

We plan to provide JITC with our new Async capable 90si’s for interoperability testing within the next few weeks. As soon as the results are published, we will send out another e-mail pointing you towards the results. We are absolutely committed to achieving flawless Async interoperability before we release the new 90si.

Do to our desire to participate in the JITC testing, we now estimate a late September release for the new async capable 90si.

Current Status

We are making excellent progress on the development of the Asynchronous secure fax protocol. In addition to adding the Async protocol we have eliminated the DIP switches on the bottom of the unit and made choosing a transmit protocol much easier. Also in the works is a means of remotely delivering future software upgrades. We think you will like what we have done.

Upgrades and Trade-Ins

Discounted upgrades and trade-in’s for all fielded 90si’s will be available. The following list breaks down the costs and type by date of shipment. We have placed a serial number look-up chart on our web site to confirm the exact costs and type for your unit(s) along with ordering procedures.

90si Shipment Date Cost
1 NOV 2008 and Newer Free
1 NOV. 2007 to 31 OCT 2008 $549
1 NOV. 2006 to 31 OCT 2007 $999
31 OCT 2006 and Older $1499

Link: Price Look-Up Chart with ordering procedures.

IMPORTANT: You must REGISTER for your free upgrade(s)

These prices include CONUS shipping and a 1 year parts and labor warranty. OCONUS shipping to an APO or FPO address is available for an additional $28 per unit.

Pre-Order Now!

We will begin accepting pre-orders for paid upgrades and trade-ins immediately... for first-come-first-served shipment when the production units become available. You may fax or e-mail your government PO’s or call /e-mail us to place a credit card order (VISA or MC). For credit card orders we require the following information: card number, expiration date, security code, card holders name, complete bill-to address, card holders e-mail address and commercial phone and fax numbers, ship-to address (no PO boxes) with point-of-contact & commercial phone number.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: All 90si’s are Affected!

Posted: 10 MAR 2009
PDF version of this notice

Your 90si will need to be upgraded or replaced this year.

Due to circumstances beyond our control your 90si will need to be upgraded or replaced. As you may already know, key-management support for the STU-III program is ending. This has rather far reaching effects as explained below.

End-of Life for STU-III’s: Key support for STU-III’s is ending.

KSV21’s Replace KOV14’s: The KOV14 is no longer available and has been replaced by the KSV21 crypto card.

End-of-Life for KOV14’s: Use of the KOV14 FORTEZZA Plus cryptologic card will end along with the STU-III.

What Does This Mean to 90si Users?

The KSV21 crypto cards do not support the previously standard synchronous RS232 interface on the STE1. As a result, we must implement an asynchronous secure fax protocol to work with the remaining asynchronous secure data modes.

As the current 90si hardware can not support this asynchronous interface, we can’t simply upgrade the firmware in your current 90si, so we are forced to redesign the hardware.

It is our plan to offer no-cost and low-cost mail-in upgrades (on a sliding scale based upon age) for 90si’s purchased after 1 NOV 2007. A discount will be available for the replacement of older 90si’s. Quantity discounts will be available.

FREE UPGRADES: Those 90si customers that purchase(d) a 90si after 1 NOV 2008 will receive a free, mail-in upgrade to the new asynchronous capable 90si. You pay shipping to us and we will pay shipping back to you.

Low cost mail-in upgrades for units purchased between 1 NOV 2007 and 1 NOV 2008 will be available. You pay shipping to us and we will pay shipping back to you.
The cost is yet to be determined.

Discounts for replacement of 90si’s purchased before 1 NOV 2007 will be available. You will send us your old 90si’s and we will ship you new units at a discount. The discount amount is yet to be determined. Contact us about quantity discounts

New Asynchronous-Capable 90si

The new 90si will have all the capabilities of the current 90si with the addition of being able to communicate with all other asynchronous-capable secure faxes and operate in asynchronous mode with STE’s using KSV21 crypto cards, OMNI’s and Sectera’s.

What Should You Do?

If you want to buy a new 90si:
If you buy a 90si before the new asynchronous version is available, you will receive a free upgrade when it is available. In the mean time, connect your 90si to a STU-III or a STE (with a KOV14 crypto card). Acquire a new KSV21 crypto card. Associate and tested your new KSV21 with your STE but use the KOV14 crypto card until you receive your upgraded 90si. Keep both crypto cards until the KOV14 no longer works. During this transitional period you may need to use both the KOV14 and KSV21 depending on who you exchange secure faxes with and what equipment they have. Eventually you will only need your STE / KSV21 and new 90si.

If your 90si is currently connected to a STU-III:
Keep using your current 90si as you have been. Buy a STE and KSV21 crypto card and upgrade your 90si to the new version, available July of 2009. Install the STE and STU-III side-by-side and keep the STU-III until after it will no longer rekey. During this transitional period you may need to use both depending on who you exchange secure faxes with and what equipment they have. Eventually you will only need your STE / KSV21 and new 90si.

If your 90si is currently working on a STE:
Keep your KOV14 crypto card and use your current 90si as you have been. Upgrade or replace your 90si with the new Async capable version, available July of 2009. Acquire a new KSV21 crypto card, associate and tested it with your STE but use the KOV14 crypto card until you receive your upgraded 90si. During this transitional period you may need to use both the KOV14 and KSV21 depending on who you exchange secure faxes with and what equipment they have. Eventually you will only need your STE / KSV21 and new 90si.

If you have a STE with a KSV21 crypto card:
Contact your COMSEC custodian or manager and ask them if they have a KOV14 crypto card that you can use. If not, ask them to find a KOV14 in a STE that does not have a secure fax connected. If this secure-voice-only STE is found, have your KSV21 transferred to them and their KOV14 transferred to you. Failing that ask your COMSEC manager for a STU-III to use until you upgrade or replace your 90si with the new Async capable version, available July of 2009.

Note 1: The KSV-21 does not support any Synchronous Secure Data modes when the STE is connected to a PSTN line (Plain old telephone line). When connected to an ISDN line, however, the KSV21 does support Synchronous Secure Data modes. Given that the majority of STE's are connected to PSTN lines, users will be driven (for the sake of interoperability) to use the Asynchronous modes.

We will post more details here, as they become available.
