Transmit Procedures
for use with 90si based secure fax systems

Three-Button Procedure (recommended)

On secure telephone / crypto

1. Secure data Place your Secure Telephone into Secure Data mode.

On fax machine (with a document loaded for transmission)

1. Off hook Take the fax off hook using the attached handset (if attached) otherwise locate the push button that does the same function (sometimes called, Hook, Monitor, Manual Dial, V. Request, etc.)
2. "1" Depress the "One" button on the fax machines dial pad.
3. Start Depress the Start or Send button on the fax machine.
4. Wait
  • Leave the Secure Telephone in Secure Data mode until the fax indicates that the transmission is complete. When the transmission is done, return to Clear or Secure Voice mode.
  • Note:
This procedure invokes what is generally referred to as a "manual" transmission in which the fax scans only one page at a time. If an error should occur during transmission the fax would not have any of your document in memory and it would not attempt to "redial" to automatically start the fax over. This method takes the same amount of transmission time as the "One-Button Procedure" listed below. We recommend this procedure as it is more user-friendly in a STE/STU-III environment.

    One-Button Procedure

    Fax setup:
Program one of the faxes "one-touch" keys with the following information: No: "1", ID: "SECURE START."
Write "Secure Start" on the associated label. Consult you fax's manual for specific programming procedures.
If you do not have your fax manual, perhaps you will find it here: Find your fax's manual.

    On secure telephone / crypto

    1. Secure data Place your Secure Telephone in Secure Data mode.
    On fax machine
    1. Secure start Depress the new Secure Start button.
    2. Wait
  • Leave the Secure Telephone in Secure Data mode until the fax indicates that the transmission is complete. When the transmission is done, return to Clear Voice mode and either hang up or talk to the far end.
  • Note:
This procedure invokes what is generally referred to as an "automatic" transmission in which the fax scans every page, all at once. If an error should occur during transmission the fax would have your whole document in memory. In addition, it will automatically try to resend the document, in its' own time. You may not be back in Secure Data mode waiting for it to do so, thus causing the fax to wait and try again. At this point, it is typically not easy to get the fax to begin sending the fax when you are back in Secure Data mode. This can cause some measure of dissatisfaction. It is for this reason that we recommend the "Three-Button Procedure" listed above.
